Income Tax Department Clarifies ITR Filing Deadline Remains September 15

The Income Tax Department has refuted fake social media content, which claimed that the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) had been extended to September 30, instead of September 15. In a social media update, the Department stated that the official final deadline to file ITRs is 15 September.

The Department also encouraged taxpayers to depend only on the official social media accounts operated by the Department. The Income Tax Department further noted that to support taxpayers in filing and related services, its helpdesk is available 24 hours a day. It said assistance is also available by phone, live chat, or WebEx sessions, and on social media platforms.
